Key Principles of a Collaborative Data Infrastructure

The ESFRI list will be updated in 2015-16 and end up to present some tens of major European Research Infrastructures with a high priority and commitment from a number of European countries to drive these RIs to their target. In addition we have a large amount of existing RIs in European level and even more in national level. Altogether this means hundreds of RIs in different areas, from physics experiments to social sciences and humanities – and everything in between.

EUDAT Glues Virtual Physiological Human Framework Together

VPH (http://vph-portal.eu) was funded by the European Union (EU) with the goal of making collaborative investigation of the human body possible across all the relevant scales (from the level of molecules through cells and organs to the whole body). VPH is currently using EUDAT services to store data safely and to move it from where it is stored to the supercomputer resources where complex calculations are performed. More specifically, VPH is using B2SAFE to ingest VPH data sets into EUDAT resources for preservation purposes, and also to replicate of our data across multiple EUDAT nodes in order to make it easier to access the data and also make it safer (in case one copy of a particular set of data is lost or damaged).

ICRI2016: EUDAT partners with Research Infrastructures – a winning collaboration

EUDAT – the Collaborative Data Infrastructure – has partnered with Research Infrastructures since its foundation 5 years ago, ensuring that the data infrastructure and its suite of research data management services are developed and designed to support research infrastructure deliver to their end users. EUDAT – the Collaborative Data Infrastructure – is a natural partner for Research Infrastructures as it offers a sustainable, robust, interoperable, secure and trustworthy data infrastructure and a suite of integrated research data management services that can be used to address data management challenges across all scientific disciplines.

EUDAT Summer School: where data management meets the next generation of researchers

From 3 to 7 July 2017, EUDAT organised its first Summer School in the stunning surroundings of Crete, kindly hosted by the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH), a unique chance to dive into the world of Research Data Management. The EUDAT Summer School welcomed a total of 39 participants (around 70 applications were received!) comprising Master and PhD students and researchers coming from all over the world and generally based at European Institutions. January brings with it lots of new activities from EUDAT including the open Call for Collaboration Projects offering free resources and expertise to pilot collaboration projects as part of its Collaborative Data Infrastructure. Research communities, projects and individual researchers are invited to make use of its data services and should apply before 26th February 2014. Part of the data services referred to in this call are B2SHARE a web-based service for storing and sharing small research data sets, and B2FIND a simple and user-friendly portal to find research data collections stored in EUDAT data centres and other repositories. B2FIND harvests metadata from diverse sources, maps it, and makes it publically available through its cross-disciplinary catalogue. These two services are now fully deployed. Have a look by yourself!
