A man of many words …. and thoughts on Research e-Infrastructures

One year ago, Augusto Burgueño Arjona was appointed Head of Unit eInfrastructures, DG CONNECT at the European Commission. This unit is responsible for funding ICT-based infrastructures and services that cut across a broad range of user disciplines, including EUDAT. In December 2014, Augusto launched a personal blog where he shares his personal views on research e-Infrastructures to encourage discussion, stimulate debate and receive feedback and contributions from his readers.

Common policies and services: a pan-European data infrastructure for all

Joining EUDAT means that data centres can offer valuable insights and services to their users. This includes ensuring that users can easily share their data with their peers in other countries and in return gain easy access to data provided elsewhere. The common policies and services provided by EUDAT are a perfect tool to ensure that a data centre’s infrastructure is compatible with other research data infrastructures. EUDAT and its partners prototype new services that are potentially of interest to national users, who profit from the experiences gained in other countries in evolving national infrastructures. EUDAT provides data centres with a perfect forum to ensure that their efforts are not happening in isolation but in sync with similar efforts elsewhere, for example, it is becoming more and more important to have a strategic approach to data that focuses on data management - such as handling metadata and facilitating the replication of data – rather than just providing storage.

5 new members join the EUDAT Collaborative Data Infrastructure (CDI)

In January 2017, the EUDAT Collaborative Data Infrastructure (CDI) welcomed 5 new members: SNIC, CCFE, UCL, Meertens Instituut and The University of Edinburgh. Currently, the EUDAT CDI counts 21 signatories.

EUDAT CDI Council appoints Per Öster as Project Director of the EOSC-hub project

The EUDAT Collaborative Data Infrastructure (CDI) has appointed Per Öster, Director of Research Infrastructures at CSC - IT Center for Science, to lead the EOSC-Hub project as Project Director. This agreement was made during the EUDAT CDI Council which was hosted by the IN2P3 Computing Centre, in Lyon, France, on 21 November 2017.
