EUDAT Training on Fundamentals of Data Infrastructures

The course will be focused around what we consider to be two important fundamental aspects of data infrastructures, that is (i) the opportunities they offer to make it easier to discover data effectively (and make your data discoverable) and (ii) the related legal issues and best practice affecting making data available to others. The course will provide concrete examples of both the advantages of the use of things like PIDs and metadata and of how these are used and supported in EUDAT. Practical examples of the fundamentals will be given leveraging on EUDAT's data services B2FIND - EUDAT's Metadata Service Metadata Service, B2SHARE - EUDAT's service for storing and sharing research data, B2STAGE - EUDAT's Data Staging Service and B2SAFE - EUDAT's Replication Service.

Adam Carter, Project Manager & EUDAT Training Manager. Adam has worked at EPCC since 2003 after completing a PhD in computational statistical physics. Since joining EPCC he has been involved in a varied set of projects, from commercial projects involving data mining and data integration to more academic projects in high performance computing. Most of his current projects have an emphasis on data. As well as working in EUDAT, he's involved in the PERICLES project which is concerned with data preservation. He's managing a project called CityFlow which is concerned with the performance of telecommunication networks and also a project which aims to couple a database of chemical structures with HPC chemical structure calculations. He's in the organising team for EPCC's Masters in High Performance Computing, has supervised a variety of Masters projects, most recently relating to Data Intensive Computing and is also a course organiser for the course on Parallel Design Patterns.
Pawe? Kamocki , Legal Expert, Institut für Deutsche Sprache, Mannheim, CLARIN ERIC. Pawel is a legal expert with background in language science; member of the CLARIN ERIC Legal Issues Committee, PhD candidate at Paris Descartes University and at Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (thesis subject: Legal issues in e-Research and e-Learning). He also works with the RDA/CODATA Interest Group on Legal Interoperability. He has presented on legal issues in many fora, including eIRG, CLARIN and EUDAT, and published in peer-reviewed journals.
Teemu Kemppainen, Applications Specialist & Project Manager, CSC-IT Center for Science Ltd Finland. With an MSc in CS from the University of Helsinki is an experienced IT professional with proven communications skills and hardcore technological abilities. Interested in developing IT systems for science in international collaboration projects. His experiences include: technical writing, founding and running own company, project coordination and management, programming, data modelling, procurements, tender bids, writing books and magazine articles. Teemu is currently working in international projects and workgroups building IT tools to help researchers.
