On 15-16 September 2016, the First Conference of Research Software Engineers took place in Manchester, UK. The 2-day event focused on the issues that affect people who write and use software in research.
As part of the event, on 16th September, Shaun Witt (CCFE) gave a useful and practical workshop, attended by around 20 participants, called "Using EUDAT as your data management tool": this workshop introduced data management techniques and the data lifecycle, and demonstrated how the EUDAT software suite can be used to manage science data throughout the data lifecycle. The concept of ‘open data’ is becoming increasingly important not only within the UK, but also on a European and Global level, with increasing requirements for allowing others to make use of data to enhance the value of the investment in science. In order to make sure open data is useful, good data management techniques and tools are required to ensure that data is not only discoverable and accessible, but also persistent over time.
