PRACE_EUDAT
The PRACE 2017 Spring School joint event with VI-SEEM took place on 25-27 April 2017 at The Cyprus Institute in Nicosia, Cyprus.
In order to meet the training needs of different persons of the PRACE, VI-SEEM and European communities, the seasonal school had two parallel sessions, namely a Developer Track and a System Administration Track along with a Keynote Address.
As part of the programme, EUDAT representative Stéphane Coutin (CINES) held a workshop on 26 April from 14:00 to 15:30, called "EUDAT and Data Management Plans - Relevant Services Case Study". 25 attendees joined the event, during which they had the chance to interactively draft a Data Management Plan (DMP) for a theorical case.

What was the workshop about?

Science and more specifically projects using HPC is facing a digital data explosion. Instruments and simulations are producing more and more volume; data can be shared, mined, cited, preserved… They are a great asset, but they are facing risks: we can miss storage, we can lose them, they can be misused… To start this session, we reviewed why it is important to manage research data and how to do this by maintaining a Data Management Plan. This was based on the best practices from EUDAT H2020 project and European Commission recommendation. During the second part we interactively drafted a DMP for a given use case.
