The goal of this session is to present the results of the collaboration with two major European Infrastructures, PRACE, the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe, and EGI to support communities into the integration of data and computing resources.
The capability to couple data and compute resources together is considered significant in accelerating scientific innovation and advancing research frontiers. In ever growing scientific and industrial domains, the use of large-scale instruments (synchrotron, telescopes, satellites, sequencers, network of sensors, scanners), supercomputers and open data archives is leading towards the convergence among HPC, High throughput Computing, Networks and Data Management facilities. The aim of these collaborations is to implement a vision where computing and data resources of any kind and size are accessible without technical barriers and that the data produced is managed in a profitable way. The aim is to connect experts, and representatives from scientific user communities, exploring ways in which such e-Infrastructures can develop in a synergic fashion and provide compound services. The joint activities cover different aspects, including the standardization of service interfaces, the harmonisation of access policies, the lowering of technical barriers, the joint support of users, and the coordination of joint training activities. The various presentations will report on the status of the collaboration, results achieved thus far, and opportunities available for the users to participate.
In addition, the session will bring together the newly-funded H2020 initiatives which focus on computing e-infrastructures dealing with extremely large datasets to describe the service prototypes that they are developing to cope with large data resources.
Finally, the preliminary outcomes of the activity to engage with Small Medium Enterprise will be presented.
