Prof. Robert Stevens - University of Manchester, UK
Robert Stevens is a Professor of computer science in the Bio-Health Informatics Group in the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester. He has a degree in biochemistry, an M.Sc. in biological Computation, and a D.Phil. in Computer Science: A blend of Biology and Computer Science, that I use within my main research area of Bioinformatics. Prof Stevens has been a seminal contributor to areas of research within the area of ontology in biology. He was part of one of the first ontologies to be used in the life sciences with TAMBIS and has contributed towards community built ontologies in areas of molecular biology also contributing towards tools such as Protege for editing OWL ontologies. Prof Stevens chaired the Bio-ontologies Interest Group meeting at ISMB for a decade and was chair of ICBO in 2012.
