This document describes value of data in the modern empirical science and the role trust relationships play in using, managing and preserving the data in the environment of a collaborative data infrastructure such as EUDAT. It also analyses properties of digital objects relevant for these tasks and gives a brief overview of established trust assessment frameworks.
